Happy 30th, T

I realized I would be away on my solo when your birthday arrives a week from today so I thought I
would send you birthday wishes this way

When I turned 30 in 1980, I was in my 6th year of teaching, I had sailed across the Atlantic and hitch-hiked through northern Europe years earlier, your mother and I had been married a year and had driven 11,000 miles across the US (CT to California to Maine); neither you or Kate was born; it was 6 years after I lost my my right eye.  I knew almost nothing about being a husband or father...or very much about what was ahead....I wish I had known then what I know now.

Whatever happens ahead, know I can give you some perspective regarding some of the lessons I learned from my mistakes.

Love always,

Dad
